Well.. boys. I know msn and googleTalk look like the best instant messengers, but We have other and best options. Jabber is one of them.
Try to check one of the many Jabber clients availables on the web. On windows -when the madeness catches me- I use Exodus.

Jabber is other alternative to AIM, ICQ, MSN technologies, besides these protocols are public and free. Hence you are able to download your own jabber server, write software for it and be part of this community.
You can download jabber clients applications and have a jabber account and used it to communicate yourself with other people in a secure way. It is more than chatting only.
As a matter of fact, GoogleTalk offers support to use jabber server. It shows Jabber are growing among the giants of internet.

My option is Trillian, trillian give me several options (msn, yahoo msn, jabber, IRC, ICQ, and more). I can chat with a friend with googleTalk and with iChat!.
I use msn as well. Most friends of mine use it. But I have my jabber account too.
